Chakaia Booker

I was visually stunned by this presentation of Ms Booker's sculptures. Constructed with remnant tire parts and other industrial cast offs, her pieces have an incredibly elegant and fluid feeling to them. They're like watching a dance. Anyone who can create something that beautiful with such humble materials is someone to watch for- this is what our world needs.

Scholastic Show at the Milwaukee Art Museum

What a perfect way to start a conversation on beauty. Last weekend I had the opportunity to check out the Scholastic Art Show at the museum to see some student's artwork on display. They won some great awards too! The Milwaukee Art Museum is such a beautiful architectural piece in itself, I always feel compelled to photograph the building when I'm there. This Laura Owens painting has always caught my attention but seemed so apropos on a blustery February day that I found myself leaving at the end of the awards ceremony to walk my big black dog in the snow.
